In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

5 reasons to book
  • Central yet calm location — A five-minute walk from Lake Wakatipu and a short drive from G Force Paragliding. The town centre is roughly a 10-minute walk away, but the lodge sits on a quieter road.
  • Good value for money — With rates from £17 per night and a free continental breakfast included, guests repeatedly note that the lodge offers solid value for a budget stay.
  • Friendly and helpful staff — The staff ratings are the highest of any category at 8.1, and several reviews single out the welcome and assistance, including a manager who went out of his way to help.
  • Ski-friendly amenities — Ski storage, ski equipment hire, and a ski pass vendor are all on site, making it a practical pick for winter sports.
  • Free private parking — Complimentary private parking is available, a useful perk in a town where parking can be scarce.

Worth weighing

5 to weigh
  • Strict cancellation policy — Cancellations within 30 days of arrival are not refundable, a point that has caught out at least one guest who assumed a more flexible policy.
  • Limited check-in window — Check-in is only from 15:00 to 19:00, which could be inconvenient if you arrive later in the evening.
  • Some noise disturbance — One guest noted that the stay was good value if you don't mind some noise, and another mentioned a room not being cleaned at midnight.
  • Uphill walk from town centre — The lodge is a short walk from town, but the return journey involves an uphill climb along the driveway.
  • No pets allowed — The lodge does not accept pets, so those travelling with animals will need to look elsewhere.

“I recently stayed at a lovely lodge in Queenstown. My purpose was to explore the area and I stayed for a few nights. The lodge had a great breakfast with a variety of options and stunning views. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. The shower had good water pressure and the rooms were cozy once the radiators were turned on. It was a good value for the price if you don't mind some noise.”

6.3Verified guest

“Facing the Remarkables, the view is great. General manager Dean is great! He gave me a good introduction to Queenstown, and free pizza, after I complained that I couldn't use my booked room because it hadn't been cleaned at midnight.”

6.3Verified guest

“Nothing, we had to change our plans 2 weeks before our visit and as this was under 30 days notice we were not entitled to any refund. This was in their cancellation policy, but as we had fully intended to stay for the whole time booked we had not read it. We just thought it would be the same as everywhere else. I spend in excess of 40 nights in hotels/motels each year, and this was the first time I have ever come across this.”
